CHOCOLATE PEANUT BUTTER RICE KRISPIE SQUARES

Now that I'm an adult, I still love a rice krispie treat but it doesn't hit the same as it used to. You know what does? Chocolate peanut butter rice krispie squares, revamped and made better for your grown up taste buds! These chocolate dipped rice krispie squares are made with peanut butter and no marshmallows. Such a great option who dislikes marshmallows or doesn't eat gelatin.

Ingredients:

- Maple syrup - Peanut butter - Chocolate - Rice krispies - Vanilla extract - Coconut oil - Salt (optional)

Can I use regular peanut butter instead of natural?

Yes, but you may need to use an additional 2 tablespoon as I find natural peanut butter is usually more runny, making it easier to mix.

Can you use another type of cereal?

Yes! Although I have not tested this recipe with any other cereal options I don't see why they wouldn't work, you may need to slightly adjust the ratio of peanut butter: cereal based on how large your cereal is but I would say cheerios, cornflakes or even a peanut butter ball type cereal would be great in these!

Are rice krispies gluten-free?

Surprisingly the brand Rice Krispies are not gluten-free. Although rice is typically a gluten free food and crispy rice cereal normally will not contain gluten, rice krispies are made with a malt syrup which is a byproduct of wheat. Fortunately, there are many brands of gluten-free crispy rice cereal.

STORAGE

Chocolate peanut butter rice krispie treats can stay fresh in the fridge for up to a week in an airtight container. You can also freeze these for a ready-to-go sweet treat for up to 3 months. I recommend separating them with parchment paper as they may stick together. When you are ready to eat them, let them thaw at room temperature to soften for a couple of minutes.

Substitutions!

To make vegan: This recipe is naturally vegan. To make nut-free: I have not tested a nut-free version, however sunflower seed butter may be a good swap.
