OAT MILK HOT CHOCOLATE

There's something about a special drink that makes it effortless to romanticize any situation. Even the gloomy, snowy weather in Ontario right now. While I love perusing the Starbucks holiday menu, sometimes my credit card thinks otherwise. Especially in times like these (aka it being WAY too cold to leave the house), this oat milk hot chocolate comes in handy.

Ingredients:

- unsweetened oat milk - vanilla extract - maple syrup - cocoa powder - cinnamon - sea salt - chocolate protein powder (optional)

Can you make this oat milk hot chocolate in the microwave?

For best results I would recommend the stovetop, but you can definitely try it in the microwave! I would whisk all the ingredients first in a mug, then microwave in increments (whisking in between) until the drink is heated. Alternatively, you could use a handheld milk frother.

What can I top my hot chocolate with?

Sooo many good options! Whipped cream, dusting of cocoa powder, drizzle of chocolate sauce, chocolate chips- the list goes on.

Top Tip

The key to success is to keep whisking. Sometimes the cocoa powder can be clumpy and won't incorporate as well, but this will resolve as long as you continually whisk.

This oat milk hot chocolate is best enjoyed fresh.

Substitutions!

This recipe is dairy-free, vegan and gluten-free, but use your milk of choice depending on preference. You can also swap the maple syrup for another liquid sweetener of choice, like honey, agave, or date syrup.
