Cottage Cheese Cookie Dough is a high protein dessert that you'll crave. It's gluten-free and safe to eat raw.

    Cottage Cheese Cookie Dough Recipe

I love a warm, gooey chocolate chip cookie, but arguably the best part about making cookies is eating the raw cookie dough. Unfortunately, as a dietitian, I can't recommend it due to risk of foodborne illness. The solution: creating the BEST healthy edible cookie dough recipe. In fact, I love making healthy recipes using cottage cheese, and it's the star in this cookie dough recipe.

I love that this cottage cheese cookie dough recipe is safe to eat, loaded with protein and fiber, and still delicious. It's equal parts nourishing and satisfying, which is always my goal when creating better-for-you sweet treats.

We use simple ingredients like cottage cheese, almond flour, protein powder, maple syrup and vanilla, which means this recipe is also lower in sugar. It's so delicious, especially with chocolate chips in every bite. You'll be eating this viral cottage cheese cookie dough off the spoon!

What is Cottage Cheese Cookie Dough?

Cottage cheese cookie dough is a healthy dessert that's gluten-free and requires no baking. It has all the deliciousness of your favorite cookie dough, but it's safe to eat raw.

We use cream, protein-packed cottage cheese as the base, then mix in almond flour, protein powder, and maple syrup to sweeten. Measure the chocolate chips with your heart!

Is Cottage Cheese Cookie Dough Healthy?

I love making cottage cheese cookie dough because it is packed with protein and simple simple ingredients. It's also higher in nutrients and lower in sugar and fat, since there is no white flour or butter in this recipe. We also use cottage cheese and protein powder in the base, which provide high quality protein to support your muscles.

I'm a firm believer that all foods fit in a healthy diet (including classic cookies), but if you're looking for a more nourishing option, cottage cheese cookie dough is the best!

    Ingredients

Ingredients for cottage cheese cookie dough, including cottage cheese, protein powder, almond flour, chocolate chips and maple syrup.

Cottage cheese. This is our base and provides around 25g protein per cup. Any cottage cheese can be used. A higher fat content will result in a slightly creamier cookie dough. We're blending cottage cheese (similar to my cottage cheese egg bites), so there's no curds left.

Maple syrup. For a natural sweetener, we use pure maple syrup.

Vanilla extract. For flavour! Since we are not baking this, I recommend using pure vanilla for the strongest taste.

Almond flour. For our main dry ingredient. Fine almond flour is great to help absorb the mixture of the wet ingredients, while still adding additional protein. It's also gluten-free and safe to eaten raw, unlike white flour. If you prefer, you can use oat flour.

Vanilla protein powder. You can use any protein powder of choice, but my personal favourite is Nuzest Smooth Vanilla.

Chocolate chips. You can't have cookie dough without chocolate chips! Any type you like will work.

The complete ingredient list with measurements can be found in the recipe card below.

    Substitutions and Variations

To make gluten-free: this recipe is naturally gluten-free.

To make dairy-free: unfortunately, I haven't found a good dairy-free cottage cheese yet.

To make nut-free: subsitute the almond flour with an equal amount of oat flour.

Get creative with your mix-ins! I used chocolate chips for a classic chocolate chip cookie, but you can use crushed Oreos, sprinkles, chopped nuts, pretzels, etc.

    Equipment

    • Immersion blender
    • Mixing bowls

How Long Does Cottage Cheese Cookie Dough Last?

This cottage cheese cookie dough can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for 5-6 days. I don't recommend freezing it as it will change the consistency of the cottage cheese.

    Top Tips for Success

To blend the cottage cheese, I recommend using an immersion blender or food processor if possible. A high powered blender will over blend the cottage cheese, resulting in a runnier consistency.

Hi Alicia- I'm not too sure what you mean by ice cream, you can freeze these however they will get quite hard once frozen, meaning they may be a little tough to bite into!
