These Healthy Chocolate Brownie Cookies are rich and fudgy but are made with oat flour, almond flour and coconut sugar for a more nutritious option.

    Healthy chocolate brownie cookies

These healthy chocolate brownie cookies have become one of my favourite treats to bake when I want something rich, chocolatey, and satisfying but still a little more nourishing. I love a classic cookie moment, but sometimes I want a dessert that feels lighter and uses ingredients that keep me feeling good.

If you've made my Fudgy Flourless Sweet Potato Brownies or my Chocolate High Protein Mug Cake, you know I love creating desserts that taste indulgent while also offering a little extra nutrition. These healthy chocolate brownie cookies follow that same idea. They use oat flour, almond flour, and coconut sugar to create a soft, chewy texture with a rich chocolate flavour that truly hits the spot. They also come together in one bowl and bake in under 10 minutes, which makes them perfect for weeknights, holidays, or any time a chocolate craving hits!

Why This Recipe Is Dietitian Approved

    1. Lower sugar. Made with coconut sugar for a naturally sweetened option you can feel good about.
    2. Made with higher fiber flour options. Oat flour and almond flour add fibre and healthy fats for a more satisfying cookie.
    3. Simple to make. These cookies come together quickly with basic ingredients and minimal steps, making them an easy and realistic dessert option.

    Healthy Chocolate Brownie Cookies Recipe

    Ingredients

Ingredients for cookies including almond flour, oat flour, butter, egg, chocolate chips, coconut sugar, cocoa powder, vanilla extract, and salt

Flours. In this cookie recipe we are using oat and almond flour!

Cocoa powder. To make these chocolate cookies chocolate flavour we use cocoa powder- i recommend using a high quality cocoa powder for best results

Baking soda. For RISE, make sure your baking soda is not expired!

Salt. Adding a touch of salt helps bring out the flavour of these cookies

Butter. I did decide to use regular butter in these cookies because I truly think the flavour real butter creates is unmatched. If you are dairy free feel free to substitute a vegan butter alternative.

Coconut sugar. Used coconut sugar in these to reduce the processed sugar added to the cookies. If you only have brown sugar on hand you absolutely can use that instead.

Egg. We use one whole egg in this recipe to provide structure and leavening.

Vanilla extract. For flavour! Natural or artificial vanilla extract will both work

Milk. To provide a little moisture

Chocolate. I recommend using chips AND chunks! The chocolate chunks melt to creat little pools of melted chocolate!

The complete ingredient list with measurements can be found in the recipe card below.

Cookie batter scooped onto a baking sheet
    1. Scoop the dough into 12 balls (about 2 tablespoon per ball) and place onto the prepared baking sheet. Gently press down the tops of the cookies to flatten them. and bake for 9-11 minutes.

    Substitutions and Variations

To make gluten-free: : this recipe can be made gluten free with a small substitution! The key sub is making sure you are using certified gluten free oat flour (like bobs red mill)!

To make dairy-free:  I have not tested a vegan variation of this recipe!

To make nut-free:  replace the butter and milk with a dairy free butter and milk substitute of choice (or use coconut oil) and ensure the chocolate is dairy free.

    Equipment

    • Mixing Bowls
    • Baking tray
    • Large cookie scoop

    Storage

These Healthy Chocolate Brownie Cookies can be stored in an airtight container on the counter for 4-5 days or in the freezer for up to 3 months!

    Top Tips for Success

Follow the order of ingredients listed! I have tested this recipe many times using many variations and recipe swaps and the best results were when the butter was mixed with the sugar BEFORE adding in all the wet ingredients.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to use both almond and oat flour?

Yes! I highly recommend using both- using just one will alter the cookies!
