This high protein chicken salad with grapes is the perfect mix of sweet, savoury, and creamy. It's light, flavorful, and an easy lunch you'll want on repeat.

    Chicken Salad with Grapes

Chicken salad is one of my all-time favorite recipes to meal prep, and I'm constantly finding new ways to switch it up. I've made versions like Buffalo Chicken Salad and Southwest Chicken Salad, and each one brings a fun new twist. If you loved my Cranberry and Pecan Chicken Salad, this Chicken Salad with Grapes gives you that same sweet and savoury combo but with a fresh twist. The juicy grapes add the perfect pop of sweetness, while crunchy walnuts and creamy Greek yogurt bring everything together. It's simple, balanced, and perfect for prepping ahead so you've got an easy, high-protein lunch ready to go all week long.

Why This Recipe Is Dietitian Approved

    1. High protein. This chicken salad with grapes is packed with lean protein, making it a satisfying option that helps keep you full and energized throughout the day.
    2. Meal prep. Make a batch at the start of the week and you'll have ready-to-go lunches that you can serve in sandwiches, wraps, or with crackers. It stores well in the fridge, so you can enjoy a quick, nourishing option all week long.
    3. Sweet and savory combination. The mix of juicy grapes, crunchy walnuts, and creamy Greek yogurt creates the perfect sweet and savory balance. It's refreshing, flavorful, and proof that nutritious meals can taste just as good as they make you feel.

    Chicken Salad with Grapes Recipe

    Ingredients

Ingredients for chicken salad. Includes cooked chicken breast, plain Greek yogurt, lemon, Dijon mustard, parsley, mayonnaise, celery, red grapes, walnuts, green onions

Chicken breast. Our lean protein of choice and the base of this chicken salad.

Greek yogurt. In all of my chicken salad recipes I use Greek yogurt to help lower the saturated fat while also increasing the protein. Any fat percentage will work just remember to use plain Greek yogurt.

Mayonnaise. I do like to add a few tablespoons of mayonnaise to create the perfect amount of creaminess

Dijon mustard. For a little spice! I use old fashioned grainy Dijon mustard

Grapes. To add the perfect amount of sweetness we use some chopped red grapes.

Celery. Every chicken salad needs some finely diced celery!

Walnuts. For a little crunch and brain supporting healthy fats!

Green onion. To add a mild onion flavour that doesn't overpower the whole chicken salad.

Parsley. For freshness i recommend using flat leafed Italian parsley.

Lemon juice. To compliment the sweet savoury combination of the chicken and grapes, lemon juice adds a little acidity for the perfect flavour!

The complete ingredient list with measurements can be found in the recipe card below.

    Substitutions and Variations

To make gluten-free: this recipe is naturally gluten free!

To make dairy-free: to make this chicken salad dairy free you can substitute the yogurt with more mayonnaise. Or use a thick non dairy yogurt of choice (just ensure it is unflavoured)!

To make nut-free: omit the walnuts! For an added crunch you could use an equal amount of sunflower seeds if desired.

To make this chicken salad with grapes your own you can get creative with the mix-ins!

    • Add some hot honey for a little spice
    • Substitute the parsley with coleslaw mix for added texture
    • Change up the ratio of mayonnaise to Greek yogurt! I always like to do a combination of both yogurt and mayonnaise in my chicken salad to achieve the perfect taste and texture, however if you just wanted to use one or wanted to play around with the ratio you absolutely can! Just ensure you have a total amount of ½ cup + 3 tbsp!

    Equipment

    • Mixing bowl

    Storage

This chicken salad with grapes can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3-4 days.

    Top Tips for Success

I highly recommend using a produce chopper to dice your celery nice and small! The key to a good chicken salad is ensuring you get a taste of everything in every bite.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Ingredients

    • 1 lb cooked chicken breast
    • ½ cup plain Greek yogurt
    • 3 tablespoon mayonnaise
    • 1 lemon just the juice
    • 1 tablespoon old fashioned dijon mustard
    • ½ cup celery diced (about 3 stalks)
    • ⅔ cup red grapes quartered
    • ¼ cup walnuts chopped
    • 3 green onions sliced (both the whites and greens)
    • ¼ cup flat leafed parsley chopped
    • ½ teaspoon salt
    • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

    Instructions

    • Shred the chicken using a stand mixer, two forks or a hand mixer (details below).
    • To a large mixing bowl add shredded chicken, greek yogurt, mayonnaise, lemon juice and dijon mustard. Stir to combine.
    • To the bowl add diced celery, red grapes, walnuts, green onions, and parsley. Mix well. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
    • Serve with crackers, in a sandwich or in a wrap.

    Notes

To easily shred your chicken once cooked, add the chicken breasts to the bowl of a stand mixer, use the paddle attachment and turn your mixer to the 'medium' setting. This is my best tip for quickly shredding chicken, but you can always pull it together with two forks if you don't have a stand mixer.
