You only need 3-ingredients to make these crunchy flax seed crackers. Naturally gluten-free, high in fiber and perfect for snacking these are the easiest homemade cracker you'll ever make.

I am always looking for new savory snacks to add to my weekly meal prep repertoire. Despite having a wide range of dips from my green pea hummus to my protein packed ranch dip and even some vegetable packed options like my veggie fritters, I knew I needed to add a cracker option to my recipe wheelhouse.

This recipe came together SO easily, I was shocked and I will never be buying store bought crackers again!

These homemade flax seed crackers are a great way to hit your daily fiber goals. With only 3 main ingredients in the base recipe and tons of ways to make them your own, these are a versatile snack perfect to be added to snack box lunches or charcuterie boards!

Why This Recipe Is Dietitian Approved

    1. High fiber cracker: Flax seed naturally is an amazing source of fiber. With 9g of fiber per 10 cracker serving, these are a great option for anyone looking for a savory snacking option.
    2. Easy to customize: The base recipe uses only 3-ingredients, so it's perfect to customize with any spices, or fresh herbs you have on hand to create your perfect homemade cracker.
    3. Homemade gluten-free crackers: Made without any gluten, these flax seed crackers are the perfect option for an easy-to make homemade gluten free option!

    Flax Seed Cracker Recipe

    Ingredients

Flax seed crackers ingredients with water, oil, and seasonings.
    • Flax seed: Ground flax seed is the main ingredient in this recipe. I typically use Manitoba Flax's flax powder for these crackers as it is pre-ground into a very fine powder. If you only have whole flax seed on hand- don't fret! You can easily blend them in a high powered blender until a smooth powder forms.
    • Water: To help hold the flax together!
    • Olive Oil: Oil acts as a binder to help moisten the flax and hold it together.
    • Optional spices/ fresh herbs: I added salt, garlic powder, onion powder and fresh rosemary to my batch of crackers for the perfect blend of fresh yet savory flavors! Feel free to get creative and experiment!

The complete ingredient list with measurements can be found in the recipe card below.

    Instructions

Before you begin: Preheat the oven to 350℉ and prepare a 16x22" sheet pan.

    1. Step 1: In a medium mixing bowl, mix together ground flax seed, olive oil and water. You may need to use your hands to ensure the dough is fully combined.
    1. Step 2: Add seasonings of choice such as salt, onion powder, garlic powder and fresh rosemary. Stir to combine.
    1. Step 3: Roll the dough between 2 sheets of parchment paper until it is about 3mm thick. You may need to remove the top sheet of parchment paper, slice off any uneven edges and re-place the extra pieces in areas that are more sparse before re-rolling to ensure you have an even rectangular shape.
    1. Step 4: Use a pizza cutter to slice the dough into squares. I typically do rows of 10x10 to get approximately 100 crackers. Carefully transfer the parchment paper to the sheet pan.
    1. Step 5: Bake at 350℉ for about 25- 30 minutes (or until golden brown), turning the pan around ½ way through cooking.
    2. Step 6: Allow to cool before cutting fully and storing.

    Top Tips for Success

    Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use whole flax seed?

For these crackers, I have not tested using whole flax seed! I like the smooth consistency of ground flax for a more traditional cracker texture!

How should I store flax seed?

I recommend storing flax seed in the fridge to retain it's freshness!

    Serving Suggestions
